Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that include elders and leaders of the traditional council of Ofunama ward, in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, have expressed disappointment with the state government.
They said that they have been seriously dealt with by the party which they alleged imposed an unknown female candidate on them to the detriment of the leadership of the party, who are the key stakeholders that made the ward win the previous election.
“However we will not relent to work with the party, if the governor in his wisdom use his good office to reinstate our rightful candidate that won the primary elections who is generally accepted by the stakeholders and elders of Ofunama ward, because we will not agree to work with that imposed candidate.
“We have the following request to make to the governor for his urgent consideration and approval.
“During the last election, a woman was shot dead when All Progressives Congress(APC) thugs were trying to hijack the electoral materials in TOLOFAR Community, where ‘General’ Pere’s boys and our preferred councillorship candidate, Ayedi Ikiyokepere Sunny, were also present at the scene to successfully rescue the election materials and still obtain a favourable result in the 2020 governorship election coming out as the second best ward in the local government area.
“As we speak
till today, we have not been offered any form of compensation regarding the killing of the woman and also because of the active role, dedication and commitment of our candidate during the election and also his input towards the growth of the party in the ward.
“The entire Ofunama chose Ayedi Ikiyokepere Sunny as our candidate.
Given this, we humbly disagree with the imposition of the female candidate against the will of the people of the ward. Therefore we have concluded not to work with the candidate that has been imposed on us.
“We will not be silent on this issue. So if the ward fails in all the forthcoming elections the stakeholders should not be held responsible or blamed.
“With the above submission, we passionately appeal for the following request to be put into consideration. The family of the woman(Mrs. Yado Okpoye) that was killed during the last general election needs to be compensated.
“Our preferred candidate who duly won the primary election must be considered as the candidate of the ward. We need to be considered for appointment as a Commissioner and Chief Security Officer (CSO) for Waterways Security.”
