CRPP condemns Okpebholo on Ekpoma crisis

A group, Concerned Members and Branch Chairmen of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Alumni Association Worldwide, has warned the public to dissociate itself from the activities of a faction of the association’s executive which it described as be impostors.

In a message by the group it stressed: “Concerned members and branch Chairmen of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Alumni Association Worldwide, have watched with dismay and disbelief the nefarious activities of one Clifford Omozeghian (an impostor) parading himself as Worldwide President of AAU Alumni Association despite the leadership tussle currently pending in a High Court in Benin City, Edo State.

“We wish to notify the general public particularly the school authority and students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma to disregard this self- seeking, power hungry, Clifford Omozeghian as he is not the duly elected Worldwide President of our noble association.

“The general public and the school authority of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma should note that: In October 2022, the association organized an election that ended in a tie in the posts of President and General Secretary respectively in which Hon. Ogbejiele Fidelis and Barrister Clifford Omozeghian were contestants for the post of the President while Otamere Eno and Vincent Ohwofadjeke were contestants for the post of General Secretary; in December 2022, the electoral body called for a rerun elections for the two positions. However, there came a disagreement among the five members electoral committee over constitutional issues where the Chairman and one member out of five members of the electoral committee conducted Election in one venue and the Secretary and two members of the same electoral committee conducted election in another venue leading to the emergence two factional Presidents and two factional Secretaries of the same AAU Alumni Association.

“Meanwhile, a case was already instituted in a High Court in Benin by Branch Chairmen challenging the illegality perpetuated in the first election where the association’s constitution was completely jettisoned. However, the second Election which was a sham ended in shame as the Electoral Body conducted parallel elections at the same day and in different venues in the AAU campus, producing two rival presidents in the persons of Hon Ogbejiele Fidelis and Barr Clifford Omozeghian; and two rival General Secretaries in the persons of Otamere Eno and Ohwofadjeke Vincent respectively.

“This development has made the immediate past President who is also not happy over the gross violation of the constitution not to handover since the day of election till date.

“Also worrisome, is the circumvention of the association’s constitution to allow new branches who ab intio were not qualified by virtue of the constitution to vote and be voted for in the said elections.

“Members are however surprised seeing Clifford Omozeghian desperately going from one branch to another setting up parallel branch executives against the association’s Constitution while the case instituted in court by the duly elected branch Chairmen is pending in court.

“Concerned members of the Association condemn in strong terms Clifford Omozeghian’s continuous visits to branches, government functionaries, traditional rulers in the name of World Wide President of AAU Alumni Association, which he is not.

“The supremacy of AAU Alumni Association’s Constitution cannot be undermined by anyone no matter how highly currently pending in Benin High Court is Sacrosanct. We will ensure justice prevails.”
