The Security Situation Room (SSR) has expressed its profound appreciation to the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his decisive and fatherly intervention resulting in the swift release of the 52 Ekpoma students who were recently reprimanded.
The SSR stated: “In a demonstration of rare statesmanship, Governor Okpebholo has reaffirmed a fundamental principle of our democracy: that the citizenship of an individual is never suspended, even in the face of allegations or legal accusations.
“By ensuring these students were treated with dignity and fairness, the Governor has sent a clear message that Edo State remains a sanctuary for justice and the protection of fundamental human rights. His administration’s proactive stance has indicated that the rights of citizens is important.”
Going further, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., Convener of the Security Situation Room, remarked: “We view this development not just as a resolution to a crisis, but as a golden opportunity to deepen the trust between the government and the governed.
“Governor Okpebholo has shown that he is a listener and a protector. His refusal to allow the rights of young citizens to be trampled upon—despite the circumstances—is a testament to a leader who understands that justice must always be seasoned with mercy and due process.”
The SSR stressed that it remains committed to monitoring the peace and safety of all residents and commends the Governor for his sterling performances in his administration.
