In the political landscape of Edo State, the ideals of equity, fair play, and reconciliation should guide our actions and decisions. However, recent events have shown a disturbing trend of violence and intimidation within the Labour Party(LP), particularly towards its state executives.
It is imperative for all stakeholders, especially gubernatorial candidates like Mr. Olu Akpata and Mr. Ogbaloi, to recognize the gravity of this situation and take immediate action to halt the use of violence and harassment. The LP, rooted in principles of social justice, should lead by example in promoting non-violence and inclusivity.
Mr. Akpata, as the gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming election, holds a significant role in fostering a culture of peace and unity within the party. He must prioritize reaching out to all members and former aspirants, embracing dialogue and collaboration over confrontation.
Similarly, Mr. Ogbaloi and others must uphold the constitution of the LP, which unequivocally rejects violence as a means of resolving grievances. Adherence to party principles is essential for maintaining the integrity and credibility of our political processes.
Moreover, I call upon Governor Godwin Obaseki and state security agencies to ensure the protection of all LP members from intimidation and harassment. Safeguarding the democratic rights of individuals is fundamental to the strength and stability of our democracy.
As we approach the gubernatorial election in September, let us reaffirm our commitment to a peaceful and fair electoral process. Let us reject violence and embrace constructive dialogue, knowing that true progress can only be achieved through unity and cooperation. Together, let us work towards a future where the values of equity, fairness, and reconciliation prevail in Edo State politics.
