The attention of the Shine Your Eyes Group(SYEG) has been drawn to a recent statement purportedly made by the Edo State leadership of the Labour Party(LP) via its Publicity Secretary cum Image maker, one self-acclaimed Comrade Sam Uroupa.
Considering that the statement is coming from a jaundiced and disgruntled position, we thought it proper that it should not be given any notice. But the calls that we have received on the statement from different quarters within the LP and outside it has neccessitated that we give it a precise response knowing that some people would unreasonably interprete non response from our end as agreeing to the unverifiable claims made by the LP leadership.
Taking the issue one after the other, one is at a loss why all of a sudden the Edo LP takes it upon itself to lay claim to knowing/recognising the whole gamut of its members spread across the world. That’s to say the least, a no mean achievement for a party whose gubernatorial primaries held in February was marked with lots of cry of mix up of members names/identification which came to light on the D Day and which caused chains of reactions that the leadership swept under the carpet in the guise of trying to meet up with the INEC deadline.
From information garnered from reliable sources a lot of foreign currencies exchanged hands in ensuring that those who got the contract to perfect the deal did a thorough job such that the dirty deal will remain fool proof, and undectetable by untrained minds.
That the LP leadership is now laying claims and pointing accusing fingers in the direction of some other political party on our position that the needful thing be done in the interest of fairplay and justice is taking the matter to the height of hypocrisy and deflecting it to its satisfaction and to deceive the gullible of its intended game plan of meeting up with the directives of its paymasters.
Another thing that readily comes to mind is that the personality of the party’s choice is dual. From the statement scripted by the LP it’s even debatable if the Olumide Akpata we all think we know and ascribe as the so called flagbearer of the party is the person known to the public.
In more than one instance in the writeup, the LP identified their candidate as Olumide Osaigbove Akpata which is at variance with his claim in official documents that he is Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata or as it pleases him Olumide Anthony Akpata.
His INEC recognised running mate peddles claims in official documents which were displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that she got three academic qualifications, OND, HND and PGD, the same year which makes her a prodigy of sorts.
Our advice to the ill prepared LP is that there is still a window of opportunity for them to do the right thing by making Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon the authentic standard bearer of the party for the September 21, governorship election. His personality for the over two decades that he has been in politics has never been in conflict and he is the only person in the party who can withstand all the shenanigans of the rival political parties which is already giving the LP nightmates hence the recourse to pointing accusing fingers at them.
