Benin Solidarity Movement (BSM) has condemned what it described as “the recent act of insubordination exhibited by President Muhammadu Buhari to the summons of the members of the House of Representatives.”

Going forward, the BSM said: “From all indications the summon of Mr. President by members of the green chambers of the National Assembly is quite in order and in accordance with the dictates of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria he swore to uphold at all times and in all circumstances.

“Moreover, the President came into office through the ballot same way as the lawmakers were given the mandate to represent and defend our interest also.

“So it is worrisome for Mr. President to show open defiance to the summons of the legislators to come and tell Nigerians the steps he has been taking thus far to address salient issues that threaten our continued existence as a nation.

“Also quite absurd is the equally defiant posture of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, a man who by virtue of his position should be the person that could always be relied on to give the right interpretation of the constitution but who in the present circumstance has chosen to egg on his boss in this game of defiance of the constitution.

“In as much as the duo – President Buhari and Abubakar Malami – have shown that they care less about adherence to the terms of the constitution of country it behove on the lawmakers to commence the process of shoving them out of office in line with the constitution.

“In simple terms Buhari’s action is a slap on Nigerians, a constitutional breach that is equivalent to a coup detat against the people.”
