Comrade Philip Shaibu, the reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, has relieved his experience in getting a favourable judgment in a federal high court in Abuja, whose verdict quashed his impeachment by the state House of Assembly.
Speaking on the sidelines of a thanksgiving service held in his honour at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, on Sunday morning, Comrade Shaibu said he had a conversation with God on which direction he wants the judgment to take which was granted him.
He divulged: I thank God for what he has done in my life and my family. All of us that are vanguard of democracy we are celebrating democracy today. I know my God will never forsake me. I am a child of God in truth and in spirit. I challenged God. I told him I want him to prove his name in my life. That people that are anti-God and anti-democracy they’re at it again and they want to use me as a scapegoat.
“I said ‘God show to the world that truly I am your son and truly I serve you in truth and spirit.’I told Him ‘I need you to perform your miracle.’ They said that they’ll impeach me and I would go to court and by the time judgment would come the tenure would have been over.
“I now challenged God ‘if truly I have been serving you in truth and spirit prove to them that this one for them to touch His annointed child that has the grace of God that the judgment for impeachment will come earlier than anybody expected’ and I said I would need the judgment to come before the election.
“Last month I told God I am seeing your work already. I need this judgment to come in July. I was specific because something told me be specific. And I became specific. When I went to court the following day it was looking very impossible. But on that day it was miraculous to hear the judge say I would be delivering my judgment on 17th July.
“I actually went emotional. Something told me inside that is it not you that asked God that you want this judgment in July? Why are you now emotional? The next thing was ‘God grant me victory’ and by the grace of God we got victory.
“This message is to everybody – hold on to the garment of God. Don’t believe in your strength. You have no strength if God does not give you the strength. Mine is a living testimony. By the grace of God I will continue to do the work of God and what’s right.”
Earlier, in his homily, Father Charles Omogiate, the Priest of the church, counselled politicians to always ensure that they abide by the promises they make in the course of campaigning for elective positions.
