Comrade Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, the Chairman of the Board of Edo State Football Association(FA), has appealed for more support from people of goodwill for his team as it channels a path of progression for the king of sports(football) in the acclaimed heartbeat state.
He spoke at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on the sidelines of the draw for the maiden Bright Osayi Samuel under 13 football fiesta which commences shortly.Â
“We’re looking forward to a formidable tournament and the young players that would be discovered. We’re also looking forward to how some matches would be televised live for the world, especially the cup donour, who is far away in Turkey, to watch.
“He wants to see the stuff the kids are made of. He wants to discover other Osayis in the making and by the grace of God we will make sure that this tournament is well organized,” he divulged.
Also speaking in the course of the draw, Paul Ojeisekhoba, the acting Vice – Chairman of the FA, said that the tournament which is the first tournament to be organised by the association in the 2024/25 football season would be done the way everyone would love it to be done, adding “we will not condone indiscipline.”
Going forth, he asserted: “we hope to improve on whatever we are doing. So, I appeal that you bear with us as we strive to get it right. We will be the first state in Nigeria to adopt this pattern of checkmating age falsification in age grade tournament. We are aware that old habits die hard. We must move the game of football forward. We need everyone’s cooperation to achieve that.”
In the draw for the Edo South version of the tournament conducted by ex-International football star, Tony Emedofu and Gladys Nnenna Nwagbara under the close supervision of Ojeisekhoba, 26 teams were drawn to square it out in the first round while three others drew bye to the next stage.
Five teams each from Edo Central and Edo North would be participating in the tournament whose final would be played in Benin City.
