All Progressives Congress(APC) in Igueben Local Government Area(LGA) of Edo State is presently enmeshed in crisis over who leads the party.
At the end of a meeting of party executives, leaders and stakeholders on Saturday, June 10, passed a vote of no confidence on Ken Ihensekhien
that he is no longer the leader of the party in the LGA. The baton was handed over Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo.
Giving reasons for taking the step, the party’s executives, leaders and stakeholders said that they took the action after due consultation.
The party said: “The local government executives, leaders and stakeholders of APC, Igueben Local Government after due consultations met on Saturday, 10th June, 2023 and passed a vote of no confidence on the local government leader, Hon. Ken Ihensekhien, over his undemocratic tendencies, poor leadership style that has made our party, the APC, to continually perform absymally in the elections conducted since he took the mantle of leadership.
“His unilateral and abitrary decisions has not only made faithful APC members from leaving our party but has deprived intending interested other party members coming to join APC.
Going further, the party said that ” arising from the enumerated facts above, the House resolved and nominated Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo, an amiable and resourceful person to lead the local government area as the leader of the All Progressives (APC) Congress henceforth.
However, the Secretary of the APC in Edo State, Lawrence Okah, told Popular News in a telephone chat that the party’s constitution does not recognize the position of leader and as such is not interested in the issue.
Also responding, Ihensekhien refuted the claim: “Who removed me? Who called the meeting where I was removed. There is nothing like that.”
In his reaction to Ihensekhien and Okah’s refutal, Igbogbo said: “Yes, the matter is not the affair of the state secretariat of the party. The local stakeholders of the party decide on who leads them. If Ihensekhien says that he is still the leader of the party in Igueben I won’t argue with him. Probably he has one or two party members that he is leading. Goodluck to them.
