2023: Why there is no PDP candidate in Edo State

Political necessities sometimes turn out to be big time political mistakes. That’s my observation with the PDP adoption of His Excellency Obaseki. The PDP had a very peaceful and well tailored party before the arrival of the Technocrat who ought to have been more loyal to the party structure that brought about his victory and he ought to have been a uniting force for the future. Today the reverse is the case and most party members wonder why.

We must as party members always ask what was the basis for accepting the then homeless Governor into the party? And what rules of the party where adopted as a protective tool for the existing structure of the party the Governor met.

From my observation none. Cause his first action as leader of the party was to dismantle the structure that gave him a new lease of fresh air.

Today we stand at the cross road of not having candidates in the 2023 elections. A tragedy that we certainly can explain but not manage. Being brilliant is a wonderful virtue which he the Governor possesses but you see when loyalty to the self precedes every other objective peace becomes a far cry from reality.

It is sad we have a Chief of Staff who is decorated with the name of an office but does not complement the wisdom of his boss at any level. He lacks both  the managerial understanding and the ability to resort to high level political talks in bringing lasting peace to a party that has provided a template for their ambition to flourish.

His Excellency often baffles me. At every meeting or any opportunity he always stresses the fact that he is the “leader of the party”. A fact that is not in doubt but a feeling that must be earned amongst party members for the good of leadership. The lion never tells the goat he is the king of the jungle because he has earned it.

People do make mistakes but when leaders sort to take people on their own rides without educating or dialogue with them chaos always shows itself. Dan Orbih and His Excellency have not been fair to us members because both parties always had their plans. Dan Orbih had a Wike plan while His Excellency had an Atiku plan. All these plans without proper discussions with us party members. Does that interpret us to be just followers?

The Legacy Group must be understood as a group that believes in the rules of the party which we all should abide by. Justice and equity is what they stand for and nothing more.

His Excellency, Atiku must try and unify the party because not doing so will be his greatest undoing in an election that looks like his. He is one of the architects of why we are in opposition today and certainly the structure that faced that defeat cannot forget yesterday. He was one of those PDP faithfuls that handed power to APC and took the Presidency from us.  So onus lies on him to do more in uniting the party.

Political system can make mistakes. What is important is to acknowledge this mistakes and put them right as soon as possible. Time is certainly not our friend. A stitch in time saves nine.

PDP! Power to the People!
God bless our party and its leaders.
