CRPP condemns Okpebholo on Ekpoma crisis

The Acting Vice Chancellor(AVC) of Ambrose Alli University(AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Professor Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, has enjoined members of staff of the University to sustain and even improve on the current relatively smooth working relationship that has helped the institution to gain better heights among the comity of Universities in Nigeria.

Prof. Adagbonyin, in a personal season’s message sent to all staff members, copies of which were made available to the media, said: “The year 2023 has no doubt been a challenging year for all of us and our University. In spite of this, we have every reason to believe that the year is ending on a positive note, especially with the awards and recognitions received by the University both nationally and globally during the period, the successful conclusion of the First Semester examinations of the 2022/2023 academic session and the payment of the December 2023 salaries.

“All these, including the highly appreciated moderate level of stability of our academic calendar,” according to the Acting Vice Chancellor, “could not have been possible without the cooperation of staff and students.”

The Acting Vice Chancellor said the period under review has not been a bed of roses as “there are still pending issues affecting the welfare of staff such as the promotion of deserving staff and others.”

He however affirmed on a
happy note that “the pending appointments and promotions exercise has now finally been concluded, paving way for the imminent approval and issuance of promotion letters to deserving staff.”

Not only that, “a list of staff with ommitted salaries has now been compiled. Verification exercises are being carried out to eliminate false claims, as was the case in the past, in order to avoid the unpleasant situation of staff being paid salaries for the months they were previously paid. We are aware that some affected pensioners were not captured in the list. Another list would be compiled in January, 2024 to capture such persons.”

The AVC admonished staff members to be steadfast as “We will certainly resolve our many challenges, but only in a stable atmosphere free of rancour such as is being presently enjoyed.”

Going further, he said: “As we all approach the end of 2023, the University Management thanks God Almighty for the progress achieved so far and appreciates all staff for their individual and collective contributions as well as their continued commitment to the vision and mission of our University.

“On behalf of the Management, I wish every staff a Merry Christmas, and may the year 2024 be a better year for all of us. Amen.”
