Breaking News: Road rage on Benin – Lagos Road aftermath of EFCC, Police midnight raid

How trigger happy policemen killed civil society leader in Benin

Edo State Police Command has reassured the people of the state and eligible voters of the protection of their lives and property before, during and after the upcoming 2023 State Legislative election on Saturday, 11th March, 2023.

In a statement by SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Command’s Public Relations Officer(PRO), he reminded Edolites “that the law on restriction of vehicular movement on the day of election is still enforced, starting from 12:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday, 11th March, 2023.”

Going forth, he warned against the violation of the law and other electoral regulations.

“This warning is coming on the heels of skirmishes noticed across the state on Saturday, 25th February, 2023, during Presidential and National Assembly elections which led to pockets of electoral offences in some places in the state by unscrupulous persons.

“The Command states that it is working with all the security agencies in the state to ensure that Citizens/Voters comply with the restriction order of no vehicular movement, stating that the synergy among the sister security agencies in the state is robust enough to breakdown any obstacle or force.

“It therefore warn all quasi and state own security outfits, including the vigilantes group, to steer clear of election duties as they are not empowered by law to perform such duties or obligations.

“The Command however reiterates its efforts to protecting the lives and property of the Citizens/Voters, before, during and after 2023 general elections, as they come out en masse to exercise their civic duties in electing the candidates of their choice.

“The Command vows to arrest and prosecute accordingly any offender come Saturday, 11th March, 2023 election and appeals on citizens to call on the following Command’s Situation Room telephone numbers; (1) 08077773721, (2) 08067551618, (3) 08056776365, (4) 08037646272, (5) 08037951250, and 08123821226.”
