Edo State House of Assembly passes 2021 Appropriation and Budget Estimates into law

Edo State House of Assembly has passed into Law the 2021 Proposed Appropriation Bill and Budget Estimates christened Make Edo Great Again(MEGA) presented to it by Governor Godwin Obaseki during plenary on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020.

Presenting its report, the chairman of the House Standing Committee on Appropriation and Project Monitoring, Hon. Ephraim Otaigbe Aluebhosele, said: “the committee has recommended that this honourable house, the honourable members of the Committee on Appropriation and Project Monitoring do hereby recommend that the year 2021 Appropriation Bill with a budget size of N164billion 72million 356, 962.30 only which include recurrent expenditure of N98billion 376million 906, 708.87 and capital expenditure of N65billion 695million 450, 253.51 be passed into law.”

In his application to the issue of the presentation and consideration of the law the Majority Leader, Hon. Henry Okhuarobo, moved that the house be dissolved into the Committee of Supply to consider the budget bill presentation a move that was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Roland Asoro.

At the level of the Committee of Supply members considered all sectors of the proposed budget and gave them all a clean bill of health whereupon they reverted back to plenary.

On the third reading of the 2021 approved Appropriation Law the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, directed the Clerk of the house to make clean copies of the law available to Governor Obaseki for his assent.

Thereafter, the house adjourned sitting to 10am on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
