Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has assured that his administration will continue to invest in education of children in the state to provide them with the needed skills to compete favourably with their peers across the globe.

The governor gave the assurance during a victory party organised by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Godwin Obaseki/Philip Shaibu Support Group in celebration of the governor’s triumph in the September 19, 2020 governorship election.

The governor said the recent xenophobic attack in South Africa was as a result of lack of education and requisite skills on the part of indigenes, who became violent and started attacking other nationalities who got employed following their superior educational qualification and skills.

Obaseki said EDOBEST will surely check such occurrences in the state, adding that teachers have a great role to play in developing the Edo child.

“Before we came to power, teachers were looked down on. Today, following the efforts of my administration, the difference is clear as our teachers are now showing commitment in discharging their responsibilities and our children are better for it.

“This state belongs to all of us and we must all work together to contribute to the growth of Edo State. We have all it takes to make Edo great,” he added.

The Executive Chairman, SUBEB, Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe commended Governor Obaseki for his support and commitment in transforming the education sector in Edo State.

She noted that Edo teachers played a vital role in the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki following his administration’s commitment in changing the narrative of the state’s education sector.
