The rot in N Power scheme

When President Muhammadu Buhari on June 8th, 2016, set up N-Power, he asserted that it’s a scheme meant to address the issues of youth unemployment and help increase social development.


Those in charge of the programme will tell you that presently over a million have benefitted from it.

These are some of the supposed positives trailing the scheme but the beneficiaries are saying that all these claims by those handling the programme are far from the truth. The so called beneficiaries will tell you series of stories, unpalatable ones, that are tied to the programme.

One of the stories is that the programme’s claim of addressing issues of youth unemployment is begging the truth as it has left its ‘beneficiaries’ underemployed and impoverished.

How in the present day Nigeria would you expect to keep youths employed and happy with a meager salary of N30,000.00 monthly. Not only that the majority of these so called ’employed’ youths ala N Power transerve between neighbouring states daily to get to their place of ‘work.’

There is a question that Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development of Nigeria,
Sadiya Umar Farouq, who oversees the programme should answer is the N30,000 monthly given to the N Power beneficiaries meant for transportation to and fro the ‘work’ place or just a pocket money?

As it is said in local parlance, yeye dey smell!
