We celebrate our freedom this day, but are still enslaved, what an illusion. May Nigerians keep in mind their obligations and responsibility to Nigeria’s growth and development today.
Everywhere you turn it’s all doom and gloom, empty promises from leaders, internally displaced persons on the increase, doctors, nurses and all medical personnel on the run to sane and safe shores.
We are not at war but the picture of events in the nation looks like that of a country at war, with medical professionals “brain drain” alarmingly on the increase.
Our country can be likened to a patient in deep coma, resulting from a subdural hematoma, and the only miracle she needs is a burr hole. The only hindrance to this life saving procedure is a relation who has refused to give the competent and ready surgeon an express consent to perform surgery.
The life saving surgery Nigeria needs is our constitutional amendment. The content and character of our 1999 constitution that was imposed on us has been stifling growth and development in Nigeria, we can be more productive, economically buoyant and less dependent on oil.
We shall continue to clamour for a new people driven constitutional template to drive real democracy and good governance.
We shall continue to clamour for federal restructuring, local government autonomy, state police, national security, devolution of powers, resource control and judicial reform.
Why has all effort to have a constitutional amendment, the only weapon to the change we seek in Nigeria, failed?
Until this is done we will still remain slaves in independence, our hopes betrayed and disillusioned ðŸ˜.
We may prostrate all life long before the judiciary, but our petitions will remain slighted.
We may supplicate all day long to the security agencies and request for protection from the tyrannical hands of bandits and kidnappers, to no avail.
To the masses we may continue to preach against ill-gotten wealth, bribery, corruption but will yield no meaningful results.
We are doing everything and blaming everyone for Nigeria’s comatose condition but refuse to give consent for her right management.
Happy independence Nigeria!
