Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has showered the national female basketball team, D’Tigress, with praises for their historic achievement of qualifying for the quarter final of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In a statement he endorsed, he said: “For the first time in history, you qualified for quarter finals, not just as a National team, but as the first African team (male or female) to make the quarter finals of the Olympics.
“You were amongst the lowest ranking team,12th place ,yet you defeated the FIBA nos 3 and 5 to get to quarter finals. You have given all of Nigeria a reason to celebrate. We appreciate you.”
On Favour Ofili, a female athlete, who is representing Nigeria in the 200m, who qualified from the heat to the next round, he said: “You stopped at nothing to prove your mettle, you are truly a star. You put all that seemed to dampen you behind you and soared during the heats.
“We are proud of you all for giving us reason to jubilate. Go for gold champs. Keep winning!”
