Sharp practices: Department of Petroleum Resources seal offending petrol filling stations in Benin

Engr. Ebi Ogionwo, the Operations Controller of the Benin Field Office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has read the riot act to petroleum products marketers in Edo State to adhere to the rules and regulations guiding their operations as stipulated by the DPR or find themselves to blame.

He gave the warning on Tuesday when he led his team on a monitoring exercise to some petrol filling stations in the Benin metropolis which resulted in some of the offending outlets been sealed.

The exercise, which commenced the previous day(Monday, March 15th, 2021), also comprised public enlightenment and sensitisation about the activities of the DPR and its guiding rules and regulations.

The DPR team sealed some of the outlets for reasons ranging from under dispensing of petroleum sold to customers; hoarding of products and inflating the price of the products above the stipulated price regime among others.

In a chat Engr. Ogionwo stated: “We started this operation on Monday, March 15th, 2021. The aim is to ensure that the quality of fuel being sold in Edo State is of real quality.

“Also to ensure that hoarding of the products is prevented and to make sure there is no diversion of the products. Safety of every motorist has to be ensured as well as dispensing according to official price with the normal meters.”
