Governor Godwin Obaseki has been accused by the All Progressives Congress (APC) of hiring an inconsequential Senior Special Assistant from the Ministry of Niger Delta to pose as a delegate of the Federal Government in his ‘arranged’ inspection of the Modular Refinery in Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha LGA, to mislead the public and steal credit for the privately-owned project.
The APC said this in a statement issued by the Chairman of its Media Campaign Council, for the September 19 Governorship election, who had earlier slammed Mr. Godwin Obaseki as a “sleeping and MOU Governor” who suddenly emerged from his slumber, after a four-year term of no achievement, to receive undeserved applauds for a privately-funded and constructed project with support from the Federal Government.
The statement read: “The outgoing Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is an embattled man whose fortune has completely faded. His problems are self-imposed, and now, in his desperate hunt to bleach his battered record and avert the defeat that awaits him next month, he is running from pillar to post, searching the nooks and crannies of Edo state for any construction, even if a wooden bridge or pavement, so he can tie ribbon and claim credit.
“He took this buffoonery to another shameful low recently when he staged a purported Federal Government inspection of the Modular Refinery in Ologbo and paraded an inconsequential and unknown SSA from the Niger Delta Ministry as the so-called FG delegate, all in an attempt to force himself into the success story of the refinery despite contributing nothing to its construction.
“It is laughable and an insult to common sense for Obaseki attempt to deceive Edo people with such silly, schoolboy trick. Everyone in the state and country is aware that inspection of critical projects in the oil and gas sector is done by senior government officials in the Ministry of Petroleum and its subsidiaries such as the NNPC, not faceless persons and inconsequential aides executing a script.
“The supposed inspection was nothing but a stage-play orchestrated by Mr. Godwin Obaseki in an attempt to halt the barrage of devastating news reports on the implosion of his re-election bid as he continues to suffer rejection while Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu picks up more endorsements from influential groups and bodies.
“Knowing that Governor Obaseki is irredeemable and will continue in his absurdity until he meets his defeat on the 19th of September, our advice is to other individuals and entities to distance themselves from this embattled figure to avoid running casualties in his deceitful campaign.”
