JCIN Amb. Alex Agbonoga, President of the Junior Chambers International (JCI), Edo Bronze, has adviced Journalists to prioritize their health and well-being.

He gave the advice on the occasion of the Free Healthcare Outreach for Edo State Journalists which the JCI held in collaboration with the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) inside the Council’s Secretariat in Benin City.

According to him, “as journalists, we are often caught up in the fast-paced, high-stress environment of the newsroom, constantly working to meet deadlines and deliver quality content to our audiences.

“However, in the midst of our dedication to our work, it is crucial that we also prioritize our own health and well-being.

“It is no secret that the journalism industry can take a toll on our physical, mental, and emotional health. Long hours, tight deadlines, and exposure to traumatic events can lead to burnout, stress, and other health issues.

“This is why it is imperative for the NUJ to take proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its members. First and foremost, we must advocate for better work-life balance. Encouraging employers to implement policies that promote flexibility, time off, and reasonable working hours can significantly improve the overall health of journalists.

“Additionally, providing access to mental health resources, such as counseling services and support groups, can help individuals cope with the emotional toll of their work.

“Furthermore, it is essential for the NUJ to address potential physical health concerns that may arise from our profession. This includes providing resources and information on ergonomic workstations, promoting regular exercise, and offering assistance for managing chronic conditions that may develop as a result of our work.”

In his message, Chairman of the Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, stressed that the programme is one of the many that his team is initiating to cater for the needs of members, advicing them to make optimum use of the two days programme to improve their health conditions.
