I write this with utmost importance to address the fake and unverified news currently in circulation which fingered Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata as the master planner of the protest that took place at the Edo State Labour Party(LP) Secretariat in Benin and also Julius Abure the party’s national chairman to be removed from position due to his announcement about the withdrawal of executive from the primaries.
I want to categorically state that all these are false accusations, baseless and a plot by the opposition party to divide LP because they are all aware that, as it stands right now the party have higher chances of winning the 2024 Edo State Governorship Election.
Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, a former Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) President, is a bonafide member of the LP and as a lawyer of 30 years experience fully understands that peaceful protest is one of the fundamental rights of every Nigerian.
The violent protest that happened on Sunday, February 4th, have nothing to do with Akpata as he is too busy campaigning for himself and have no time to tear the party apart. How can he organise such a protest against the same party he wants to contest under? It makes no sense at all. I urge everyone to kindly disregard the fake news spreading.
We all know how elections in Nigeria normally takes place, the opposition party would plant some of their loyalists in other political parties just to cause chaos and disorganise the party. This is the hand work of PDP, they are willing to do whatever they want just to see that LP is no more in Edo State and that won’t happen.
For the call of removal of Barrister Julius Abure, this is the best time to focus on repositioning the LP so we can take control of Edo State. Even the Bible recognised the unity of a house hence – Mark 3 : 25 which states “If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”
For the final time I urge LP and its supporters to be as strong as ever as this phase will surely pass too. Let us not allow the ruling party to overcome us. I am currently at Abuja now with Senator Neda Imasuen on the way forward to end the crisis. So far Senator Imasuen hasn’t shut his door against anybody he promised to stand fully with us in the course of peace. So we can win upcoming elections in Edo State.
