Recently, a landmark achievement heralded the graduation programme of the Edo State University, Uzaire, when five students on the sponsorship of the Home for the Needy, which also accommodates internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, graduated in Medicine and Surgery in flying colours.
The students – Dr. Philemon Ayuba, Dr. Favour Oghenetoja, Dr. Danjuma Yaya, Dr. Ali Markus and Dr. Zachariah Timothy – told Popular News the story of how they found solace in the IDPs Camp after escaping the Boko Haram insurgency that characterised their state, Borno. How they were enrolled for free education in the camp, gained admission to the university and eventually graduated in flying colours from the university.
According to Dr. Philemon Ayuba who graduated in Medicine and Surgery he intends to specialize in Neurosurgery –
Being a student from the IDPs camp was a big challenge. Sometimes I suffered from lack of books to read. Poor feeding etc.
“The support from our daddy, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho kept all of us going as he urged us on telling us what we stand to benefit with proper education.”
Dr. Danjuma Yaya said that – It has been a challenging journey of six years. Today, I am grateful to God for the enablement and support from Pastor Folorunsho. He has always been a pillar of support.
Said Dr. Zachariah Timothy – I have been in the IDPs camp for nine years. I am from Borno State. I attended secondary school here(in the IDPs camp, Uhogua). Proceeded to the university and I just graduated and was inducted about a month ago.
Paying school fees, getting text books and even feeding was challenging. We thank God for our daddy, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho who kept encouraging us and is always there for us.
Dr. Ali Markus – I came here(the IDPs camp) to seek for refuge from the Boko Haram insurgency in my area in Borno State. I just graduated from Edo State University with a degree in Medicine and Surgery.
While in school I faced so many challenges like inadequate feeding, lack of school fees and some others. I remember that on most occasions I attend lectures with empty stomach but God saw me through with the encouragement of Pastor Solomon Folorunsho. Now, I have graduated. I am grateful for Pastor Folorunsho’s sacrifice in ensuring that my dream come through.
