Members of the North America chapter of Idia College Old Girls Association (ICOGA) have challenged the Edo State Government to do all it can to bring the school back to its glory days when it was assessed as a front runner in terms of its functioning facilities.

The chapter made the call in a speech delivered by its President, Dr. Stella Igbinedion Iditua, on the occasion of the commissioning and handing over to the Edo State Government a four classrooms block and two semi detached sewage system plus borehole and solar power system project constructed by the chapter inside the school premises in Benin City.

In her speech Dr. Iditua recalled what she described as the good old days when the school was a front runner in the assessment of many as a result of its facilities been in top shape.

She asserted that over the years the situation in the school deteriorated to the extent that its hitherto enviable facilities became a shadow of themselves as a result of poor maintenance culture.

Dr. Iditua appealed to the state government to give adequate security to the school and its facilities in the light of complains that hoodlums repeatedly vandalised the project while it was under construction by the constructing firm, EDSUWA.

Responding, the state Commissioner for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, Isoken Omo, who represented Governor Godwin Obaseki at the epoch event, reiterated that the government will not shirk in its desire to ensure that the state legacies are given priority attention.

She assured the ICOGA that their message was well received and the government will act promptly on it. She disclosed that the government is mindful of placing education as a key legacy and that Idia College is one of the prototypes of its blueprint in education.

The Commissioner charged other good spirited individuals to follow the footsteps of ICOGA North America in giving back to the society while advising the school management to operate a good maintenance culture so as to always keep the new facilities and others in the school premises in tiptop shape.
