Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, who was embroiled in a sex scandal allegation against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been told to stay off the National Assembly premises in Abuja for six months.

This came as aftermath of a majority vote that concurred with the pronouncement of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Code of Conduct chaired by Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District.

She was not allowed to speak before the Senate President called for a vote on the issue. The Senate also refused to reconsider her suspension until it lapses or she apologies.

During the period of the suspension her office will be a no go area to her and she will not be welcomed to the National Assembly complex. Also her salaries and those of her legislative aides will also be suspended during this period.

For her to appeal the suspension, she must submit a written apology to the Senate for violating its rules. The Minority leader of the Senate, Abba Moro, endorsed the ethics committee report, stating that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions warranted disciplinary action, likening her to a child who needs correction.

He said, “as Nigerians, we have a tradition; if you beat your child with the right hand, you draw that child with the left hand.”
