A group, Benin United Forum(BUF), has accused the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami of some inanities that include what they tagged “anti-Benin plots.”
Addressing a Press Conference on Wednesday, Iyamu Osaro Culture, the President of BUF said that “we have unraveled the anti-Benin plans/plots being selfishly pursued by the outgoing Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami to handover the helms of affairs to a Yoruba man who was former Deputy Vice-Chancellor as the next Vice-Chancellor of University of Benin.
“It is on record that in 2009, while some people were fighting against the struggle for the actualization of the enthronement and appointment of a Benin Vice-Chancellor, we took it as inevitable struggle to ensure that the first Benin man emerged as Vice-Chancellor of University of Benin who was the late Professor Osayuki Oshodin and ever since the struggle was birthed, the foundation we laid has been aggressively followed to the latter which also gave the nod for the appointment of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Salami.
“Therefore, if the predecessors of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Salami, had destroyed the foundation we laid, it would have been difficult for her, a Benin woman, to emerge as the Vice-Chancellor of University of Benin.”
Going forth the group stressed: “Thus, we the leadership and stakeholders of Benin United Forum want to humbly use this medium to appeal to our God’s King on Earth, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Oba Ewuare II to call Professor Salami to order in view to averting her anti-Benin agenda which might lead to anarchy in the university and we want to also use this medium to humbly call on the elites and other stakeholders of Benin Nation to prevail on the outgoing Vice Chancellor of University of Benin to jettison her anti-Benin agenda in view to sustaining the foundation and legacy we established in 2009.”
