Fuel scarcity: Edo State Govt to arrest, prosecute extortionists

Edo State Government has warned elements described as illegal collectors, who go about from one fuel station to the other intimidating and exploiting petroleum marketers and fuel tankers under the guise that they are representatives of the State Ministry of Mining and Energy to desist as they face been arrested, prosecuted.

Notice to this effect was served via an announcement signed by the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Ethan Uzamere.

“It has come to the notice of the state government the illegal activities of some persons that move about from one fuel station to another, intimidating and  exploiting petroleum marketers and fuel tankers along the highways under the guise that they are representatives of Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy.

“Government hereby call on the illegal collectors to desist from this heinous act as anyone caught will be handed over to the security agencies and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“Any marketer who continues to transact business with this persons does so at their own peril.

“The general public is hereby informed to report any person or group of persons to the nearest Police Station or the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Block B, 7th Floor, Secretariat Building, Sapele Road, Benin city. Or call the ministry through phone number 08151686368 without delay.

“By this announcement, Security Agencies are to take note and arrest any person or group of persons involved in this act as government frowns at extortion and any act that will bring hardship upon it’s citizens.”
