Deputy Governor(DG) of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie Esq. have charged journalists to stick tenaciously to the dictate of the profession as Nigerians go to the polls in 2023 to elect the right leaders.

The duo made the charge during an end of year party they recently hosted for journalists practicing in the state.

According to Ogie,”Nigeria is going into ruins. Things are not in order. It is left for journalists to stick to the dictates of their profession by reporting events as they occur without bias or flavour.

“You have a critical role to play in the society. You should not abandon it.”

He averred that the result of the 2023 polls will address most of the issues setting Nigeria backwards, adding that the polls must be taken seriously by Nigerians.

In his own submission, Comrade Shaibu said that Nigerians should always pray for a free, fair and peaceful  polls in 2023 whose result should address our myriad of complaints on  bad governance.

Going further he appealed to Nigerians to take the polls as a way of turning lives around for the better in the face of mounting hardship.

He highlighted some of the challenges Nigerians are currently facing as economic hardship, insecurity, poor governance, corruption etc.

Comrade Shaibu praised the efforts of Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in sanitising the journalism profession by way of weeding out quacks from the fold.
