Festus Alenkhe emerges chairman of Edo State Council of NUJ

In line with popular acclaim and bookmakers’ prediction, Festus Alenkhe of the Edo Broadcasting Service(EBS), has emerged winner of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), chairmanship poll held on Friday, December 17th, 2021.

He floored his opponent, the immediate past Secretary of the Council, Titus Akhigbe, with a landslide of 226 to 126 votes in the poll held under the watch of operatives of security agencies and observers.

Other positions which were vied for where treasurer which was a contest between Solomon Obozunya of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria(FRCN) and Lucky Isibor who was the incumbent. Solomon won the contest by 232 to 118 votes.

Three candidates contested for the position of Secretary with Andy Egbon of the Nigerian Observer Newspaper emerging victorious with 139 votes compared to the 125 votes garnered by Kehinde Osagiede of the same Nigerian Observer Newspaper outfit while Osaretin Emokpae of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria(FRCN) came a distant third with 90 votes.

For the position of Assistant Secretary the two candidates that slugged it out where Elvis Edo Omoregie of Merit Chapel and Kingsley Abavo of Federated Chapel with Elvis winning by 209 votes to Abavo’s 137 votes.

Other new members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) who were also sworn in having been returned opposed are Imelda Osayande(Vice Chairman) and Paul Iduoze(Auditor).

379 delegates were screened for the elections while 354 were accredited.
