Barrister Marie Bisi Idaomi, was sworn in as a Commissioner in Edo State in the current administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo on 22nd January.
Less than 10 days after her swearing in which signalled a change in her status she has exhibited the kind of person she is. She has shown by her first recorded action in the Ministry of Women Affairs she is overseeing for Governor Monday Okpebholo and indeed the people of Edo State that she is not imbued with emphatic feelings.
Idaomi is one of the fortunate members of the Legacy Group of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Chief Dan Osi Orbih which is assumed to have played some roles in the victory of the APC in the Saturday, September 21st, 2024 gubernatorial poll in Edo State.
By virtue of good luck she was thrown up by the Legacy Group as one of its nominees for a place in the Governor Okpebholo cabinet. And thus her name was submitted to the Edo State House of Assembly by the Governor who since his assumption of office has left no one in doubt about his desire to take the state to the next level and make life bearable for its residents.
There’s no where in the history of the highly fought battle most especially between the APC and the PDP where Bisi Idaomi’s name was mentioned as playing any major role in the outcome of the result of the poll in her locality, Akoko Edo Local Government. She probably got a slot as a Commissioner representing her local government to sort of compensate the area for the encouraging votes that Okpebholo got from there which contributed to his victory.
Now, to be seen to be active one of the first set of assignments that Idaomi undertook was to visit the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) which then Governor Godwin Obaseki who built it named after Senator Daisy Danjuma to cater for the accommodation challenges of returnee migrants.
In the course of her inspection visit to the facility she discovered an “illegal occupant” there whom she summarily gave a 3-day ultimatum to evacuate the place and whom was eventually thrown out on her instructions several hours before the deadline Idaomi gave.
The so called “illegal occupant” is not a destitute. She is actually a staff of the then Edo State Security Network which the then Governor Obaseki created and which Governor Okpebholo retained and renamed Edo State Security Corps and called for reinstatement of its operatives after due clearance.
Bisi Idaomi’s “illegal occupant” got cleared after the rigorous process. She’s a mother of a toddler and had accommodation issues. She got a small space at the SARC facility through a strong recommendation. She’s supposed to occupy the small space until a few months when the ongoing construction work on the accommodation for the staff of the security outfit would be completed and she would move in with her baby.
CP Friday Ibadin, the boss of the Edo State Security Corps, is in the know about her situation and has shown sympathy for her. But Idaomi will not listen to the “illegal occupant’s” explanation. She must be seen to be working by Governor Okpebholo and the only way to do that is to strike the iron when it’s hot.
The “illegal occupant” and her baby were thrown out of the SARC facility on Saturday evening. Now, they’re in the cold and God forbid anything untoward happens to them. If it does Mrs. Commissioner would not be bothered. She has carried out a herculean task that may fetch her a much juicy posting by her boss very soon!
