Crossfire: A tragic case of self-unaware hypocrisy

The recent Supreme Court ruling in favor of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, dated 26th October, 2023, has triggered widespread disappointment and frustration among numerous Nigerians.

The verdict by the Supreme Court was not accepted by the majority, and as a result of the judgment, they have affirmed that forgery, criminality does not matter anymore.

This ruling, following a suit filed by H.E. Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Gregory Obi of the Labour Party (LP), has raised questions about the country’s judicial system and its commitment to upholding fairness and integrity.

Amidst the turmoil and disillusionment, one individual has emerged as a stalwart advocate for transparency and ethical governance, Chief (Dr.) Patrick Eholor.

Chief Eholor’s unwavering dedication to justice and the rule of law has been a guiding light in these tumultuous times. His persistent efforts to hold public figures accountable and demand transparency in governmental affairs have garnered widespread respect and admiration.

As a vocal proponent of good governance, he has consistently emphasized the importance of impartiality and the sanctity of democratic processes.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, Chief Eholor has taken a firm stance, reiterating the need for a robust and independent judiciary that remains impervious to undue influence or manipulation. Through his advocacy, he has echoed the sentiments of countless Nigerians who are deeply concerned about the integrity of the country’s democratic institutions.

Chief Eholor’s steadfast commitment to championing the rights of the common citizen and upholding the principles of justice serves as a powerful reminder of the significance of accountability in a functioning democracy.

His tireless efforts in holding the political elite accountable for their actions have not only earned him widespread acclaim but have also inspired a sense of hope and resilience among the Nigerian populace.

In this critical moment, as Nigerians grapple with the implications of the Supreme Court’s verdict, Chief Eholor’s voice resonates as a beacon of hope, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and a steadfast commitment to the principles of justice and fairness.

It is imperative that his unwavering dedication to the pursuit of a transparent and accountable governance system serves as a catalyst for broader reform and a renewed commitment to upholding the rule of law in Nigeria.

In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand fold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers, we are not simply protecting their trivial old age, we are thereby ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations.
