Inaugurating the committee, the Managing Director, Edo State Transport Authority, Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor, said the team will sensitize all transport stakeholders, especially within the Benin metropolis, ahead of full enforcement to the directive.

She further reminded all transport stakeholders in the state of the mutual agreement between the state government and the stakeholders on the extension of the deadline to 31st December, 2022, noting that the government has further extended the deadline by two weeks in the spirit of the New Year celebration.

While appreciating the genuine effort of some drivers/owners who have complied with the directive by coming to register their vehicles within the stipulated deadline, she urged others to leverage the opportunity of the deadline extension to comply with the government’s directive.

The Managing Director expressed confidence that the new team set up by the government will mobilise more drivers to ensure compliance to the directive on compulsory painting of all commercial vehicles and profiling of drivers/owners in the state.

Agbonlahor further charged the team to be humane, peaceful and orderly in the discharge of their duties.

She said the government by the exercise is gathering the necessary data to ascertain the numbers of transport operators in the state so as to effectively plan and build requisite infrastructure.

The sensitization team comprises some staff of the defunct Ministry of Transport, officials of EDSTMA (Edo State Transport Management Agency) and Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), among others.
