Edo Queens youthful prolific winger, Goodness Osigwe, was simply fantastic on Wednesday evening in Edo Queens 4-1 win over Rivers Angels in NWFL Match Day 10 premiership game played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The hot-red fearless winger, who has exhibited a high level of football artistry since joining Edo Queens this season, netted in three goals for the Benin City based ladies in yesterday’s classic game between the two NWFL big giants in Group B of the abridged league.

Osigwe’s 6th and 8th minutes early opener gave so much confidence to the Moses Aduku tutored  girls.

As Nigeria former champions, Rivers Angels fought gallantly to pull one back in the 22nd minutes of action bringing score line at half time to 2-1. It was actually a game of two titans with both teams playing like wounded lionesses.

First quarter of the game was highly competitive for both side as they showed no respect to each other. The game was tension soaked as both coaches were put on their toes dishing out instructions from the side line.

On resumption of the second half, Miracle Joseph of Edo Queens was hacked down inside the penalty area, the center referee wasted no time in awarding a penalty to Edo Queens. Goodness Osigwe went for the ball positioned it in the penalty spot, then  took a crafty shot to the right edge of the post bringing the score line to 3-1 in 56th minutes of play.

Rivers Angels did all they could to cancel the goals but Edo Queens goalkeeper, Ijeoma Ozoma, gave good account of herself by her wonderful saves.

Edo Queens Manager, Moses Aduku, made some good changes that added bite and force to the team. The changes paid off when Amarachukwu Onuorah, got a loose ball beating two defenders  took the ball with her left foot straight into the net giving Edo Queens a convincing 4-1 win over the resilient Rivers Angels.

It was another win in the furnace of pressure at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium as the fans rely on Edo Queens to keep their season alive.

Fans have also described the victory as a sweet revenge following Edo Queens 3-1 defeat to Rivers Angels in the first leg played in Port Harcourt during the first stanza of the league.

Edo Queens Head Coach, Moses Aduku, in a post match interview, described Rivers Angels as a tough team who came with the mindset to win.

“First and foremost, I thank God for the victory. I must tell you that Rivers Angels is not a push over side. They came with the mindset to win. They are good. They gave us a run for our money. I must commend them for that. But my girls know what to do. They got their chances and utilized them. Though we lost several chances of scoring more goals, but all the same I thank God for the result.

“One area I will go back and work on is our defense, they didn’t play as expected. Before our next game against Sunshine Queens, we would have corrected the area we needed to correct. Good game for us we are happy because we have worked so hard for it. It is actually a sweet revenge.

“For me it is one game at a time. We are done with this. We are going back to prepare for the next game against Sunshine Queens. Every team is a contender for the Super 6 ticket. We are confident that we would get there by His grace.”
