The Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele and other top government functionaries will on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 unveil the newly appointed General Manager(GM) of Edo Queens Football Club, Rollanson Aituari Odeh.
Others to be unveiled include the newly appointed Austin Iyamu and Peter Obanor as Technical Director and Team Manager respectively for Bendel Insurance Football Club,with Greg Ikhenoba as Head Coach. The unveiling ceremony is slated for the new Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, beginning from 10:00am with Governor Monday Okpebholo as the Special Guest of Honour and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa as Guest of Honour.
These newly appointed officers are expected to bring their expertise to bare in ensuring accelerated progress and development of the clubs. As defending champions of the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL), Edo State Government has recruited 13 new players to beef up Edo Queens for the new season.
Insurance, on their part, are also busy in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) transfer market in their quest to fortify their team for the second round challenge. And the players will also be unveiled at the ceremony with the coaches.
According to Hon. Enabulele, Governor Okpebholo, has given him the mandate to ensure a turn around in the sports sector. He stated that the two teams needed effective and efficient management and technical crew hence the appointment of the ex players and football legends who have distinguished themselves in the game of football to add value to the clubs.
Meanwhile, all is now set for the commencement of the NWFL for 2025 season as Edo Queens prepare to host Abia Angels Football Club of Abia State on Wednesday, January 15th at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City. Kick off time is 6pm.
