Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Dankwara, has promised to establish a lasting cordial relationship with the journalists in the state so as to achieve the goal of maintaining a crime free society.
He made the promise while on a courtesy call to the exco and members of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at its Secretariat in Benin City on Monday.
The super cop affirmed that it is a must for the media and the police to work in synergy if the war against criminals and criminalities is to be won.
He charged the journalists to always feel free to reach out to him in the course of discharging their constitutional role so as to make the task of policing easier to accomplish with a promise that any such call from journalists would be treated with quick dispatch.
Responding, Chairman of the Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, charged the police to intensify efforts in fighting crime to the hinterland and expressways as criminals having discovered that the heat on them in the metropolis is getting intense have shifted their operational base further into the interior communities.
He assured his guest that the media is ever ready to render it’s service to the police in line with its constitutional role and as such should see the journalists as partners in progress.
In the entourage of the Police boss were some senior management staff of the State Police Command.
