Edo NMA honours best medical students at AAU induction ceremony

Observing the time honoured tradition of the medical profession, the College of Medicine Ambrose Alli University(AAU), Ekpoma, had her induction ceremony earlier in the week.

About a hundred young medical students were to be recognised as members of the medical profession during this ceremony.

In her remarks, the chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association(NMA), Edo State/South -South Caucus, Dr. Imoisili Udoka, appreciated the Provost of the College, Prof. GBS Iyalomhe for all the sacrifices he makes to ensure that these students are medical graduates today.

Turning to the Registrar of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria(MDCN), Dr. T.A.B Sanusi, she poured him accolades for listening to the voice of reasoning and allowing this event to take place, despite the shortcomings of the school. She appealed to all stakeholders to ensure that the medical training in AAU meets the requirements of MDCN.

Continuing she said, today as you end the lighting of the candles of celebration while several job offer beckons, remember not to lose your life while taking care of others, especially with the acute shortage of doctors in the country.

The NMA Chairman advised the young doctors to take care of their health. While admonishing them to be good citizens and that they should uphold the physician’s pledge “take care of your health, know when to take a break and call for help,” she re-echoed, stating that Edo NMA will stand up to her responsibilities and fight for their welfare.

She admonished the young doctors to be active in NMA as this is the only sanctuary of safety in the medical profession.

She announced the sum of one hundred thousand naira only (₦100,000) as Edo NMA’s prize for the best graduating student and fifty thousand naira only(₦50,000) being prize for the best male and the best female graduating students respectively.

Customised Edo NMA identity cards were also presented to all inductees, while the NMA ties were presented to some outstanding students. These acts of Edo NMA were met with standing ovations from the inductees and well wishers.
