The Edo State Government has disclosed that it has achieved a level of success in its war against quackery in the health sector insisting that it won’t stop there as it marches ahead to score more points.

Giving a scorecard of its achievements since he assumed office in June 2023, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samuel Alli, stated that 108 facilities have been sealed for not adhering to the rules and regulations of the state government on operation of health facilities.

He gave a breakdown of the facilities sealed as 33 medical laboratories, 10 hospitals, 11 nursing homes, 26 community pharmacies and 28 medicine stores. Adding that the reasons that they were sealed ranged from non-registration, unsafe medical practices, practicing beyond approved scope and use of unqualified personnel.

He warned that on no account should any healthcare practitioner operate without the approval of Ministry of Health.

Dr. Alli affirmed that any unsafe practices found will not only be sealed “but may face prosecution. Therefore, all medical professionals must ensure that they maintain the highest level of medical ethics and standards to ensure that all residents of Edo State are safe.”

He advised that in 2024 “people should do the proper thing. The health of our people is paramount and of priority. While trying to save costs and improve your revenue, we must collectively ensure that we can guarantee optimal healthcare quality for our people.”
