Edo governor’s aide calls for improved security

A Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the Governor of Edo State on Security, Hon. Pere Ejune, has called on him to beef up the Waterways Security.

In a chat, Hon. Pere said, “I want to appreciate the Governor of Edo State for his good effort in bringing a lasting solution to the problem we are facing in Edo State on security, especially in Ovia South West, Ovia North East and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government axis. I know the governor will not relent until he brings a lasting solution to the problem we are facing in the Waterways.

“In anywhere there’s criminal activity, how do you expect development? You can’t expect anyone to endanger their lives to come to that axis for any developmental assistance.

“I know the governor is going to try his best and he will not relent. The criminal activities we are talking about includes kidnapping, sea piracy, oppression, self government, illegal logging, conversion of government property, intimidation, destruction of the National Park and so many hideouts of kidnappers in the forest. I’m begging the government not to relent.

“The Governor should constitute a security board for Edo State Waterways.
There should be a security committee whereby the Ijaws, Benins, Urhobos and the Itsekiris will be put together to form a committee. The committee should be of people from the grassroot.

“I am a member of a security company that can fight crime. I have written to the governor to inform him. I know too well that the governor is trying, but no one can tell why all these problems have not come to an end.

“We don’t want a situation where you will need police or army to escort you to your house for security reasons. We need to sleep well in the future,” he said.
