Edo State Football Association Chairman, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, on Saturday evening congratulated Nigeria’s representative at this year CAF Women Champions League ongoing in Morocco, Edo Queens of Benin City, for the wonderful performance in their final group game against the defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
The Nigeria and WAFU B Champions on Saturday evening in Morocco came from one goal down to pip cup holders Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in a dramatic fashion to reach the semi final of the biggest women football tournament in Africa.
Congratulating the debutants at the 4th CAF Women Champions League, Edo FA boss, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, disclosed that he is optimistic the Edo ladies can go all the way to the final match of the tournament.
“This is a huge victory for Edo Queens and Nigeria. I call this one the Morocco miracle. Taking out the defending champion is not an easy task. Congratulations to the team for a job well done.
“They should not relent, they can go all the way to lift the trophy looking at their performance today, they should just keep pushing and I am very optimistic they can conquer Africa,” Erhunmwunse posited.
Meanwhile, the Edo FA Chairman has tasked the team to go all out against TP Mazembe FC on Tuesday and qualify for the final.
“I want the ladies to go all out against TP Mazembe FC on Tuesday and get the final spot. From there anything can happen, Edo Queens can win the trophy as a gift for our new governor His Excellency, Monday Okpebholo and also for us at Edo FA as we mark our one year anniversary,” Fred Newton Erhunmwunse stated.
