Whenever you come in close 4contact with Coach Friday Osazuwa, who leads the Kung Fu squad of Team Edo at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Benin, he is all smiles but behind that smile is a big worry.
Though his band of Kung Fu fighters are not relenting in making Edo State proud as can be attested to by the strings of medals(Gold, Silver and Bronze) they have so far acquired at the festival, Coach Osazuwa is held back because the success came with so much stress.
“I am proud of my athletes. They have proved their capabilities at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival but it did not come easy. Our biggest challenge is that we don’t have enough mats to train with.
“Also we lack enough weapons. It is quite absurd to wait for an athlete to finish his own training before you can get the same weapon for your own training.
Asked how he and his team have been able to surmount these setback to win laurels, Coach Osazuwa said: “I don’t joke with my work. I ensure that whenever I am training my athletes they quite understand what I am doing.
“After training, we go into watching videos and any other thing I feel we ought to do so as to get good result.
“We need the support of the government, wealthy individuals and even corporate organisations to get modern equipment with which to train so as to do much better in the sport.”
