Edo 2020: How to honour athletes that make Edo State proud – Asen

Hon. Asen Victor, ex-Council chairman, ex-legislator and ex-Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has charged the state government to ensure that athletes that make the state proud at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival are encouraged by way of been employed as civil servants and also by been given cash gift.

“What will give the athletes that are making Edo State proud at this 20th National Sports Festival is giving them gainful employment in the state civil service and also giving the cash gift the way some other states have always done to their athletes.

“With that they will all have something tangible to fall back on in the future and they will always be in a condition of appreciation of what the government has done to better their lots.”

On his rating of organisers of the 20th National Sports Festival, he poured encomiums on the committee led by the Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu for a job well done.

“The committee saddled with the responsibility of organising the 20th National Sports Festival, led by the Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, deserves commendation for a job well done so far.

“As at this moment we have not heard of any complaint. All has been going on smoothly. That is worthy of commendation to the organisers. Also the quality of the equipment that are been used in the games are high so the athletes have no reason to complain.”

Going forward, he advised the Edo State government to put in place a process whereby young athletes should be discovered and nurtured to become global champions in a seamless manner that would be a prototype for other states to copy.
