As early as 7.00am on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, residents of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp situated in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, armed with their PVCs started moving to their polling booth which is located just a few metres outside the camp.
As the process of identification of eligible voters commenced followed by the actual voting subsequently they were all expectant that their choice candidates for the State House of Assembly seat for the locality would emerge victorious and rescue them from several issues of poor representation coupled with bad governance.
The weather was good and friendly just as the eligible voters queued up to exercise their franchise as stipulated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
From no where came a staccato of gunshots fired by some youths who came into the arena almost unnoticed as they did a little reconnaissance of the surrounding before they struck with their staccatoes of gunshot ostensibly to scare off the potential voters whom they suspected may not cast their precious vote for them.
In the bedlam that ensued the miscreants made away with the already stuffed ballot boxes. As everybody took to their heels to stay alive many got injured as they fell down and were trampled upon by the escapees or hit their feet on hard objects on the ground.
In a short while the nearby health facilities were filled up with casualties most of whom are presently battling between life and death even as they cry for assistance from people of goodwill and the government to enable them walk free from their hospital bed.
