Edo State Government has directed filling station owners in the state to begin to accept bank and Point Of Sales(POS) transfers from customers due to the severe cash crunch nation wide. This was contained in a press statement signed by the state Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Engr. Ethan Uzamere and made available to journalists in the state. “This became necessary as the State Government’s attention has been drawn to the behavior of some filling stations who reject such transfers which violates the earlier directive by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, on the 9th of February, 2023, to accept the use of POS thereby causing untold hardship to the citizens of the state. “The Petroleum Monitoring Committee will be out to ensure compliance as those who violate this directive will be sanctioned.” The state government however sympathized and assured that all hands are on deck to ensure that the situation becomes a thing of the past.
