An aspirant seeking the Edo North Senatorial ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr Sunday Daudu, weekend insisted that the senatorial ticket should be zoned to Owan in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice.
He also frowned at the recent declaration by the former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to join the Edo North Senatorial race adding that a younger person with prerequisite education and capacity should be supported.
Daudu, who is from Owan East Local Government Area of the State and a Benin based legal practitioner, said the Owans remain in the most marginalized in terms of political office rotation in the state.
He spoke to newsmen after he formally declared his intention to vie for the senatorial ticket at his
Igue/Ikao Ward 6, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.
“Historical development of our political history since 1999 has been through zoning. The first was Etsako with Senator Victor Oyofo, thereafter Owan with Senator Yisa Braimah, then Senator Domingo Obende from Akoko-Edo.
“Having gone round it goes back again to Etsako with Senator Alimikhena. So now, it is the turn of Owans where I come from. The two major contenders by our principle of zoning and fair play are not supposed to come out in the first place.
“Some of us have been in the political scene and attain some training. National Assembly is all about lawmaking and you can’t make laws more than the lawyers.
“Ordinarily, Oshiomhole should be a political father of Edo North where every aspirants go to him to seek his blessing and not him coming down to children to seek their blessing. We respect him and want him to go for the presidency and not reducing campaign to a zone where he was once a governor of a whole state.”
