John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) Hall in Benin City today played host to the grand finale of the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation Inter-school Debate Competition.
The Championship final which featured ten schools from across the three senatorial districts of the state was filled with thrills and frills from start to finish as spectators were held spellbond by the contestants mastery of their subject matter, presentation and masterful delivery.
The contesting schools were from Edo South – Idia College; St Maria Gorretti College; St Michael’s College and Eghosa Anglican Grammar School.
From Edo North were Fugar Mixed Secondary School; Uzebba Grammar School and Holy Trinity Grammar School. While from Edo Central were Annunciation Catholic College (ACC), Irrua; Igueben Grammar School and Timzy International Educational Centre.
At the end of the proceedings Eghosa Grammar School emerged victorious closely followed by Idia College and Annunciation Catholic College. For its efforts the Eghosa Grammar School team was given a million naira(₦1,000,000) cash prize plus a giant trophy.
All participants were presented with Certificate of Participation, books and other sundry items with the outstanding speakers going home with cash prizes ranging from between ₦100,000 and ₦200,000.
The Championship, the maiden edition, commenced from Friday, 30th May, at the Egor Local Government Council Secretariat and transversed all the three senatorial districts of the state.
It is the brainchild of ex-World Medical Association(WMA) and Commonwealth Medical Association(CMA) President, Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation(DOEF).
