As part of the efforts to fortify Edo Queens FC of Benin, ahead of the last journey for the Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL) premiership race, Edo State Government has successfully completed the signing of five new players to the club.

The newly signed players are Anjor Mary, formerly of Bayelsa Queens; Rebecca Adegbemile, formerly of Delta Queens; while Winifred Eyegboria,   Vincent Precious and Happiness Titus are formerly of Remo Stars Ladies FC.

The players, who had their first session of training with Edo Queens yesterday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, made positive impact, displaying a high level of professionalism signifying their readiness to make Edo State proud.

The five players have put pen to paper for one year deal. This will be the second transfer deal Edo Queens management is carrying out for the 2024/25 season. They have all had their medicals completed ready to explode.

Giving reasons for the beef up, the General Manager of the team, Rollanson Odeh, commended the state government and the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC), Desmond Enabulele, for the massive support, he said it was necessary for Edo Queens to fortify  the team in some department due to the challenge ahead.

“Firstly, I want to appreciate Governor Monday Okpebholo, and members of his team for the opportunity given to us to serve the state. As you know, Edo Queens is already a household name in Africa Women Football. As WAFU-B Champions and NWFL defending champions, all eyes are on us. So to stand the test of time we needed to overhaul some department of the game because we know that there is a tough challenge ahead.

“But be that as it may, we are ready,  and good to go. The players are training hard ready to win again. This is the last phase of the NWFL premiership. Our target is to go continental again, and I know the technical crew is doing very well and by the special grace of God Edo Queens will retain the trophy.”

Speaking ahead of the second stanza, the Head Coach, Moses Aduku, said: “For me, I think we are ready for the challenge. There’s no easy game. This is the last stage, every team is aiming for the best. Edo Queens is a fantastic team. We are happy that we have been able to bring in more experienced legs to amplify the efforts of the other ones for a positive result at the end.

“Boosting up the team was a good move and I like to thank the state government for their massive support. We are elated and ready to hit the ground running. To us in Edo Queens, every game is a war, and we are ready to fight.”
