Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, has affirmed that under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, her Ministry “remain steadfast in our commitment to policies and programmes that empower women socially, economically, and politically.”

Going further, she said: “We continue to strengthen initiatives that promote gender equality, protect vulnerable groups, support survivors of gender-based violence, and expand opportunities for women to thrive.”

According to her, “today, as the world commemorates International Women’s Day 2026, we join the global community in celebrating the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women and girls across Edo State, Nigeria, and the world.

“This year’s theme, ‘Rights, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls,’ calls on all of us—government, institutions, communities, and individuals to move beyond words and commit to meaningful actions that ensure women and girls enjoy their full rights, equal opportunities, and protection from all forms of discrimination and violence.”

She stated that the day “is not only a moment of celebration but also a call to action. It reminds us that when women are empowered, families flourish, communities prosper, and societies progress.”

Hon. Abdallah called “on all stakeholders, development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, traditional and religious institutions, and our vibrant youth, to join hands with government in advancing the rights and dignity of every woman and girl.”

Focusing on the women and girls of the state, she stressed, “your courage, creativity, and leadership continue to inspire positive change. Your voices matter, your dreams are valid, and your contributions are essential to building the Edo State we all desire.

“Let us continue to work together to create a society where every woman and girl can live with dignity, equality, and opportunity.”
