‎“We must be prepared to conquer,” this was the declaration of Desmond Enabulele, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, while charging coaches and athletes that will  represent the state at the zonal elimination series scheduled for this weekend ahead of the Asaba National Youth Games(NYG) to give the state adequate representation and come out tops in all their events.

The Edo State Sports Commission boss gave the charge during an interactive session on Thursday at the Commission’s Media Centre situated inside the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

“Your commitment is essential if we are to clinch all available tickets and maintain Edo’s dominance in all the sports in Uyo,” he affirmed.

‎Enabulele urged the coaches to demonstrate discipline, professionalism and patriotism in their quest to secure qualification for the state in all events at the eliminations, scheduled for August 16–18 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

‎‎He disclosed that all athletes and coaches would proceed to full camping immediately after the zonal elimination games to begin final preparation for the main event, billed for August 26 to September 6 in Delta State.

‎‎Enabulele assured the coaches that the commission is already addressing their challenges and remains committed to supporting their work for them to succeed.

‎He said that success is a shared responsibility and urged the coaches to match the commission’s commitment and support with results.

Meanwhile, ‎in a related development, Enabulele reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to empowering young people through sports, innovation, and community engagement.

He was speaking during a special ceremony held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to mark the 2025 International Youth Day(IYD)

‎Enabulele described sports as a “powerful tool for youth development, discipline, and unity,” adding that the Commission is working tirelessly to expand opportunities for young athletes across Edo State.

‎‎He also used the opportunity to announce upcoming grassroots sports programmes and talent-hunt initiatives aimed at unearthing hidden potential sports champions in rural and urban communities across the state.
