Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor, a Benin based rights activist, has re-emphasised that the call for rotation in the position of Edo State Governor is uncalled for.

“Let whom the cap fits wear it. The idea of rotation of occupants of government house on ethnic basis is backward. It cannot happen in my time.

“We cannot sideline the best for the worst on the altar of rotation. We don’t want an ethnic governor in Edo State. We deserve the best and we will go for the best.

“We must change the narrative of politics in Edo State which is the heartbeat of the nation.”

On why he opted to seek for election as councillor under the banner of independent candidacy, he said: “I want to step out of the box and do something differently. I want to change the narrative of politics.

“A lot of people have the erroneous feeling that politics is about making money. The narrative must change. Politics is about giving back to the society.

“I chose to contest as an independent candidate because I see that if I contest on the platform of PDP or APC they will taint my blood because their blood is infected by corruption.”

Going further, Chief Eholor said: “It is time for me to give back to my people. I want to contest for the position of local government councillor. I will be able to attract development to my constituency, Utoka, in Ovia North East Local Government Area.

“I wont be earning salary. The salary should be given to my constituents. I want to be there to pay back what I feel that I am owing the society. I feel that Ovia North East has been forgotten.

“It will interest you to know that the only secondary school they have there today, Utoka Grammar School, I built it; I built the health centre that they have there and also constructed the earth road. I also give them job empowerment.

“Politics is not what you invest in and want to have the reward in cash. While campaigning I will remind my constituents of the things that I have done for them lately.”

On his blueprint, “education is very paramount because a country without education is a blind country. I want to do a lot of things differently.

“I will ensure that every child has access to education and any parent who bar their children from being educated will be penalised.

“Every pupil will be entitled to breakfast and lunch in school. I will teach people how to fish by themselves. The era of sharing bags of rice, garri and salt is over.

“Those above 18 years old will be encouraged to have PVC(permanent voters card) so that they can participate actively in the election process of voting and been voted for.”
