As you are reading this there is a closed door meeting going on at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the defunct Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G-5 governors group.
The G-5 is made up of five PDP governors in the last dispensation — Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).
Among the G-5 governors, only Governor Makinde is still a serving governor.
The aggrieved governors had formed an alliance after the PDP presidential primary election was won by Atiku Abubakar in May 2022.
They had demanded that the then National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, should step down for a Southern replacement as a precondition to support the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the February 25 poll which the party never adhered to.
