The story of Dr. Brightence Ogiemwonyi, CEO Brightence Electronics Company International Limited, situated in Benin City, the Edo State capital, sounds like a stuff from a book of fairy tales. Despite the stiff opposition he encountered from his parents on his career choice, he trudged on to become a success story even after satisfying their wish.

He tells his story in an exclusive chat with Popular News.

“I was born into the family of Prince (Sir) and Princess (Deaconess) Lady Mrs Palmer Ogiemwonyi on June 23rd, 1981 in Benin City, Edo State Nigeria.

“I attended Oguola Primary School and Edokpolo Grammar School both in Benin City. At Edokpolo I was the Biology Prefect of the 1999 set.

“I started my innovations and creativity of my God given talent while I was still in secondary school. I was always building toys and selling them in the then Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) Trade Fair which is now Edo State Board of Internal Revenue located along Mission Road before New Benin Market, Benin City. I was encouraged by my secondary school Physics teacher, Mr. Aghedo, to study Electrical Electronics Engineering in the University.

“So I was advised immediately after my WAEC Examination to study Mechanical Engineering/Craft Practice in the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) in the year 2000. Thereafter, my parents frowned at my decision to become an Electrical Electronics Engineer and insisted that I must go to the University to study either Medicine or Dentistry.

“In order to satisfy my parents, I went to the University of Benin to study Dentistry and graduated with Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS Benin). Having satisfied my father most especially, I decided to return to my ‘God given talent’ even after been fully registered with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council.”

Historically, Dr. Brightence Ogiemwonyi is the first Dental Surgeon to manufacture and assemble a fuel-free generator popularly called Brightence Fuel-Free Generator in the year 2004 while still in Medical School at the University of Benin.

Dr. Ogiemwonyi through his company has been involved in the manufacturing and assembling of the following: Brightence LED Displaying Digital Pure Sine Wave Inverters; Brightence Alternator Boosters to prolong the shelve life of Fuel/Gasoline Generators; Brightence Analog Inverters; Brightence Automatic Changeover; Brightence Industrial Customized Stabilizers; Brightence Security Cameras; Brightence Water Pump Controllers; Brightence Phase Selectors; Brightence Inverter Batteries; Brightence 5watts and 12watts LED Super Saving Energy Bulbs and Brightence MPPT Solar Charge Controller. Just to mention a few. With most of the products fully certified by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria(SON).

As part of its corporate social responsibility, vocational studies and technical skills acquisition programs Brightence Electronic Company has been involved in entrepreneurship practical training program engaging several senior secondary schools students and several undergraduates on practical oriented industrial attachment trainings and most importantly the general public in becoming student entrepreneurs and creating in the society a platform for self-employment for citizens within Nigeria.

In recognition of his service to humanity, Dr. Ogiemwonyi was conferred with the prestigious Distinguish Alumnus Award  by the University of Benin Alumni Association in 2007 whereby he became a member of the institution’s distinguish alumnus family.
